Sally Morgan - Biography
Originally from London/Grand Bend Ontario, Sally
Morgan has
been working independently and through her company, Eastward Moving, as a dancer, choreographer, director, filmmaker,
teacher and producer for 13 years. She spent several years based in Toronto and
lived/worked in Nova Scotia from 1999-2006. Her choreography has been performed
across Canada and in the USA. She began training professionally in 1994 and has
traveled internationally with studies and work in dance, somatic movement, contact
improvisation and film/video. Her current work is focused on place/space and
identity and she continues to explore improvisation and the connections between
landscape and the body through her performance, research and teaching. The late
Diane Moore and noted teachers/mentors, including Nancy Stark Smith and Simone
Forti, have influenced Sally’s artistic approach.
Recent projects include: the site specific work Landmarked (2010), a commission for NDW in St. John’s, the solos Intersections and The Far Field (2008) and dance film (with Canal Arte) and accompanying 1hr BRAVO television documentary titled (decoding the) Undertow (2006/07) as well as the work-in-progress the fields and the woods, performed at The ARTS Project Gallery in London, ON in February 2010. She has recently performed with Company Blonde, Eroca Nicols/Lady Janitor Productions, Ruth Douthwright/All Dance Project, Maxine Heppner, Karen Kaeja, Barbara Lindenberg, Jessica Runge and Circus Orange.
She holds a BFA from York (Dance) and trained at The School of TDT. Sally teaches classes and workshops in Contact Improvisation, Improvisation towards Performance, and Improvisational Writing and Movement, Yoga and Pilates. She is currently pursuing her second year in a Masters of Environmental Studies at York University and is the proud mama of a three-year-old daughter, Evangeline.
