Choreography for the Camera
Creatively exploring the journey from storyboarding to shooting, this workshop takes a closer look at the collaborative process between dancers and filmmakers. Please come with a short movement phrase to work with.

Contact Dance and Improvisation as Choreographic Instruments
How does improvisation become material for choreography? How can choreography be improvised? The understanding, awareness and contemplation inherent in improvisational practices can lead us to open and see opportunities and possibilities for each situation. We begin to notice what we notice, we learn to break habitual patterns and we are able to be alive and alert in the present moment. As individuals and as a group we will broaden our moving and listening skills through both internal and external states, structures and scores for improvisation and invention.

Contemplative Dance
Listening, sensing, being. Paying close attention to the body and letting ourselves be lead into movement or stillness. A gentle, guided/facilitated practice of moving meditation. Using sitting meditation, personal physical practice, and authentic movement/improvisation interacting with others.

Improvisation
We will work with improvisational movement, training our perception and awareness, writing practice, storytelling, partnering, solo/group work and improvisational scores. We will use our own experiences and stories as a base for playing and exploring improvisation towards performance.

Improvisational Writing and Movement
Timed writing exercises, looking and listening deeper, speaking and moving, telling stories and hearing stories. This class is autobiographical in nature and integrates improvisational movement with writing practice. Whether you are looking to develop new material, play with ideas or just experiment…this is a good place to be.

Mapping the Body
This workshop looks at how we can use the body as a landscape, a memory map, a narrative. We will explore how simple map making and personal geography can influence and inspire new creative material.

Releasing into Time and Weight
Warming up the body through floor and centre work that will wake up the bones, muscles and tissues. Bringing a concentration into the notions of time and weight through dynamic movement phrases based in somatic release work and contemporary dance. Class cumulates in learning a section from a current choreographic work.
